How to Ask a Professor for a Paper Extension

Image
Maybe you just broke up with your significant other, have become suddenly ill, or are just completely swamped with other homework. There are a myriad of honest reasons you probably won't have your paper in on time. It can seem intimidating or even embarrassing to ask for an extension, but most professors are willing to hear you out. Asking politely and promptly just might attract your professor's compassion.EditStepsEditFormulating Your ReasonDouble-check your course’s policies. Before you actually ask your professor, read over the class syllabus and any other course policies. Sometimes professors will say if they automatically grant extensions, are willing to consider them in certain circumstances, or have a no-extension policy.[1] Knowing what your professor’s rules are, and what they’re willing to do, will help you phrase your request correctly.Show evidence if you say you are sick. A serious illness, like the flu, is a reasonable cause to ask for an extension. If you say yo…

5 Critical Stats for Retailers About Personalized Offers

Image
Consumer behaviors have been evolving since the rise of e-commerce and digital commerce. The Pinnacle: Why The Best Nicolas Cage Performance Is In ‘Raising Arizona’

Image
20th Century Fox All this week, Uproxx will be paying tribute to the many facets of Nicolas Cage, from his big-screen triumphs to the legends that have come to surround him and the cult following both have helped create. Next: A look at how Cage found a new gear with the Coen brothers’ 1987 classic Raising Arizona. This week, my colleagues have discussed the early, “cool” Nicolas Cage and the later, “hot” Nicolas Cage. I would like to now pay tribute to the “medium” Nicolas Cage, which really only exists in one film, 1987’s Raising Arizona. But first, let’s briefly define the “cool,” “hot,” and “medium” iterations of Cage. As ably covered by Noel Murray, Cage got his start in the early ’80s playing moody outsiders in teen-oriented films like Valley Girl and Rumble Fish. In these movies, Cage is eccentric but within the acceptable parameters of the conventional “bad boy” archetype, like a punk-rock version of Luke Perry form Beverly Hills 90210. At no point does he ever threaten to comple…

June 1997: ‘Con Air,’ ‘Face/Off’ And The Peak Of Nicolas Cage’s Stardom

Image
Disney/Paramount All this week, Uproxx will be paying tribute to the many facets of Nicolas Cage, from his big-screen triumphs to the legends that have come to surround him and the cult following both have helped create. Next: A look at June 1997, the height of Cage’s stardom. There are three, possibly four, distinct periods in Nicolas Cage’s film career. First, you have Promising Talent Cage, which goes from the beginning of his career up through Leaving Las Vegas in 1995. (If you want to separate out Leaving Las Vegas as its own category called Oscar Cage, I won’t fight you.) After that, you have Action Star Cage, which covers a small but memorable run from 1996 through the early 2000s. And then, you have what I will delicately call Yowza Cage, which covers just about everything since the first National Treasure movie in 2004 and includes about a dozen movies that you’ve never heard of but are currently on Netflix. There’s some overlap there, of course. Adaptation was released in 2002…
